Jeff Ruppert brings a wide breadth of experience and skills to the services he provides to clients as principal at The Ruppert Co., LLC.   

Before forming The Ruppert Co., Jeff served four years as Deputy Legal Counsel and Operations Advisor to Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.  Within the Office of the Governor, Jeff acted in a variety of roles ranging from the purely legal (overseeing judicial appointments, acting as legal advisor to the Governor’s Office and multiple state agencies and boards, and serving as public records and privacy officer); to legislative (leading multiple budget veto processes and oversight of legislation impacting the legal profession); to administrative (management of Governor’s Office budget and staff and oversight of Governor’s Residence).

Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, Jeff maintained a general practice of law in the Cincinnati-Dayton area as a litigator working in all levels of courts. Jeff handled all types of contested matters such as complicated insurance trials and appeals, technical review of DNA evidence in rape cases, and interpretation of an international treaty before the Ohio Supreme Court.    

Jeff has incorporated, counseled and worked closely with dozens of start-ups, partnerships, businesses and firms. Jeff has also served on the boards of several non-profit entities. 

Early in his professional career, Jeff served as Ohio Campaign Scheduler and Lead Advance to Vice President Al Gore, and as a legislative aide to United States Senator John Glenn.  Jeff has also served in numerous capacities – legal and non-legal – on national, state and local campaigns. 

Jeff Ruppert holds his B.A. from Miami University and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.  Jeff is currently licensed in Ohio (1999) and the United States District Court, Southern District of Ohio (2000).

Jeff has successfully advised and managed organizations, problems and issues of all sorts.  He has a practical understanding of how the law works, and how it truly impacts people, associations and corporations.  He has also directed and supervised the finances of several multi-million dollar enterprises and organizations, as well as counseled growing startup campaigns and businesses. 

Jeff's wealth of experience enables him to deliver complicated opinions and projects on time and without issue.  He possesses an ability to focus, manage time and think creatively and nimbly.    

Jeff is able to successfully navigate strong personalities and relate to people so that he can effectively communicate and coordinate with elected officials, judges, attorneys, community leaders and citizens.   Perhaps most important of all, Jeff does all of this with his sense of humor intact.

Jeff has embraced technology and its ability to foster greater efficiency and results in his practice, as well as better communication with his clients.  Jeff and RCo. seek to provide clients with experienced, personalized and accessible counsel without the overhead costs and inefficiencies of big firms.  

RCo. aims to to provide more for less, and has embraced alternatives to the traditional hourly billing model.  RCo.'s clients can choose to utilize alternative fee arrangements such as fixed costs, capped fees and/or "value billing" (or a mix of all three).   

For those campaigns, organizations, businesses and startups that have legal and compliance needs, but not the ability or means to hire full-time in house counsel, RCo. offers COUNSEL.solutions, an in-house counsel billing alternative.  With a COUNSEL.solutions plan, you can retain RCo. for a set amount of hours each month, and you are guaranteed in-house service from outside counsel at affordable and predictable rates.

VENTURE-BUILDER

In 2012, Jeff stepped out of the "legal" world to further his interest in "disruptive, inevitable, efficient & sustainable" technology and processes through the founding of High Mountain Ventures, LLC (highmtnventures.com). High Mountain Ventures is a venture-builder and leader in launching and accelerating the work of progressive social and political entrepreneurs. 

In 2013, Jeff, along with members of his immediate family, founded The Ruppert Family Foundation (ruppertfoundation.org ), a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that seeks to use the principles of effective altruism to enable the small foundation to "play bigger."  

The Ruppert Family Foundation's goal is to  recognize, foster and grow community leadership,  achievement and fellowship through the award of donations, scholarships, grants in Jeff's hometown - Franklin, Ohio.
